week of 12/15

This week we followed up on the criminal investigation. We looked at the electrophlisis results and made an explanation about who we thought stole the rock. We also learned about the cycle of a cell. First, it goes through interphase.when it grows)Then it starts to reproduce and splits.

During science this week we learned about the process in which you take someones cells and then separate the D.N.A. from the rest of the cell. First you need to get the cells and put them in a graduated cylinder. Then make a solution with some dish detergent to destroy the membrane. Next, you add the solution and mix. Also add some pineapple juice to break down the proteins. This will make all the other things in the cell disappear and the only thing left will be the D.N.A. After all that, you start electrophoresis. Electrophoresis is a process that you use gel to sort the D.N.A. and make it more visible.

D.N.A. and R.N.A.

There are 2 differences between D.N.A. and R.N.A.. D.N.A. has a double helix and compleated nitrogen based pairs. R.N.A. has a single helix and non comlpeated based pairs.

This week in science we labled the parts of all cells and learned what all the organells do.

We also learned what cells are made of and what everything goes back to. For example,

Atoms are composed of electrons, nuetrons and protons

Molocules are made of a few atoms.

Macromolocules are made of many atoms.

D.N.A, protines and other things are made of molocules/macromolocules.

Organells are made of D.N.A., protines or other things.

Cell(s) are made of organells.

Something elso that we learned about

was the structure of D.N.A

Tissues are made of cells.

Organ is made of tissues.

Organ system is made of organs.

A Complex Organism (human)is made of organ systems.

The week of nov24

This week we labled cells. There were eukariotic and prokariotic cells that we were lableing. Some of the eukariotic cells that we looked at were plant and animal cells. There were also some bacteria cells witha cillia and a flagellum which is used to transport the cell. The human body only has one type of cell with a flagellumm, it is the sperm cell. There were also some prokariotic cells that that had cillia and a flagellum.

Reasons the lesson

The reason for this lesson is to learn about making graphs. We need to learn this so we can use them for any other experiment that we need to record data. We could also use this skill in other subjects in case we need to graph there. The reason we are using simulations is so we can get information a lot quicker and so we don't make simple mistakes.
